Germany arrests suspected man for joining ISIS in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a German court ordered, at a preliminary hearing, that a citizen suspected of travelling to Syria and joining Islamic State (ISIS) remain in custody.

German authorities accused Asmael K. of travelling to Syria in late 2013 to join the extremist group, which “killed and kidnapped opponents,” prosecutors said.

Asmael K. was arrested a day earlier by federal agents in the western city of Essen.

In a similar incident, a German woman was accused in January of having joined ISIS and enslaving a Yazidi woman. The 37-year-old Nadine K allegedly travelled to Syria in December 2014 and was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in 2019.
