ISIS landmine kills child, injures two in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – One child was killed and two others were injured on Wednesday when a landmine left over by Islamic State (ISIS) exploded in the north of the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A local source in the town of al-Husainiyah, 5 km north of Deir ez-Zor, said that an eleven-year-old, Yazan al-Muhammad, lost his life in an IED blast that took place while he was playing with other children near an abandoned house in the vicinity of the town.

Two other children sustained severe injuries to their heads and were immediately transferred to al-Assad Hospital, the source added.

The children’s health conditions are very critical, according to the hospital’s administration.

On February 21, a child lost his life and another was wounded when a landmine, a remnant of ISIS, exploded east of Deir ez-Zor.

Since 2017, Syrian government forces have been combing a part of the Syrian desert that it runs in response to an increased presence of ISIS militants, which have caused the forces massive human and material losses.
