Turkish border guards shoot Syrian lady, her child
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a woman and her child were injured on their attempt to cross border into Turkey from the village of Azmarin, northwest of Idlib, northwest Syria.
A military source told North Press, “Today at dawn, Turkish border guards shot at a number of civilians while they were trying to cross the border towards Turkey from Azmarin in the countryside of Idlib.”
The shooting caused the 37-year-old lady Batol al-Khlief and her 9-year-old child Ahmad to be injured, according to the source.
The source added that the lady and her child hail from the eastern countryside of Aleppo, and they were transferred to a nearby hospital via a civil car.
Militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) have subjected the lady and the child to supervision for investigation to reveal details of the incidents and names of smugglers, the source said.
Most Syrians attempting the cross into Turkey are resorting to dangerous smuggling routes, as they face dire economic and living conditions, especially in Idlib.
According to Violations Documentation Center in North Syria (VDC-NSY) monitoring, 542 individuals, including 103 children and 67 women, have been killed by the Turkish border guards since the start of Syrian war in 2011 up to the end of 2022.
The total toll of those wounded by the Turkish border guards while trying to flee their dire condition seeking better future in Turkey or farmers working on their lands, or people in towns and villages near the border situated on border has reached 2246 until Dec. 31, 2022, according to the center.
