Man found killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Residents in the eastern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, found on Thursday a body of a man, who had been missing since Wednesday, with his hands and legs cuffed and bearing marks of gunshots.

A local source told North Press, “The residents found the body of young man Nasser Hammad al-Jahmani on the road between the villages of Kiheel and al-Taebah in the eastern countryside of Daraa.”

The source said, “The body was transferred to the Daraa National Hospital to be identified.”

“The young man hails from the town of Sayda in the eastern countryside of Daraa. And after the Syrian government forces took control of Daraa Governorate in the summer of 2018, he did not join any military or security body,” the source added.

In July 2018, the Syrian opposition armed factions and government forces reached a settlement agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting civilians and members of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
