Theater festival launched in Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, activities of “Arin’s Peace Braids” theater festival began in its second season in the city of Kobani with the participation of ten theater groups from six different cities.

The festival bears the title “Little Hope Here Should be Disclosed.”

The festival that Culture Board in the Euphrates region organizes, in coordination with Baqi Khedo Center for Culture and Art in Kobani, covers the period between 5 and 14 October.

The festival includes daily theater and musical performances.

Hussein Khani, director of the festival, said that the opening ceremony of the festival coincides with the eighth anniversary of Arin Mirkan’s martyrdom.

The female fighter in the Woman’s Protection Units (YPJ), Arin Mirkan, martyred on Mashtanour hill in Kobani during war against the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in 2014.

Khani added, “This season is special because groups from outside the common cultural centers are participating.” 

He noted formal words were released during the opening ceremony, and then “a musical was performed, bearing the title “The Tree of Life. Lyrics were written by Omid Omar, they were composed by Hussein Khani and directed by Hoshang Resho.”

The Tree of Life narrates story of love and war during the ISIS attacks on Kobani in addition to displacements of the residents and how women supported men in their war and resistance till victory.

First season of the Arin’s Peace Braid festival began on October 20 last year with the participation of seven theater groups from the cities of Raqqa, Tabqa, Manbij, Aleppo, Afrin and Kobani.

Khani said, “Last year, the festival was well received by the people, and this year, we see the fruits of our work.”
