Yong man kidnapped, killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, residents found the body of a young man on a highway in the eastern countryside of Daraa, south Syria.

The Family of the young man got to know the body of their kidnapped son at the National Hospital in Daraa.

A source close to the young man’s family told North Press the body belonged to Mahmoud Ayman Sarhan al-Mahamid.

Al-Mahamid was kidnapped 20 days ago in the neighborhood of al-Kashef in the governorate, and was found shot dead on Tuesday.

The source pointed out that the Syrian government forces intensively deploy in al-Kashef neighborhood, where there are two branches of State Security and Criminal Security, in addition to a large number of military checkpoints.

It went further saying that the government forces are likely the party behind the kidnapping.

Al-Mahamid did not join any military or security formations since the settlement agreement in the summer of 2018.

A number of residents found the body next to Damascus – Daraa Highway, with bullet holes.

On the same day, the residents found the body of another young man, Adham Jaber al-Eid, handcuffed and bearing signs of torture near al-Shammari mill in the town of Muzayrib in the western countryside of Daraa.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.

In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
