Two members of Russian-backed 5th Corps killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen killed on Wednesday two members of the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps in the eastern countryside of Daraa governorate.

“Two members of the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps were seriously injured as a result of being targeted by unidentified gunmen in the town of al-Kahil in the eastern countryside of Daraa,” local sources told North Press.

“They were transported to the hospital in the city of Busra al-Sham but they died there,” the sources added.

According to the sources, the two killed men were former members of the opposition factions and had reconciled with   government forces when regaining Daraa governorate in 2018.

Following the reconciliation with government forces, the Russian officers worked to recruit hundreds of former members of the opposition factions into the ranks of its Eighth Brigade under the leadership of Ahmed al-Awda. Al-Awda himself was one of the most prominent leaders of the opposition factions.
