Turkey forcibly deports Syrian refugee for sitting on chair in street

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) On Wednesday, Turkish authorities issued a decision to deport a Syrian refugee claiming he sat on a chair in front of his shop blocking the passersby from walking in front of the shop in Istanbul.

Reports contradicted over the reason for the young mans’ deportation decision.

Some said Istanbul police arrested the young man from his place of residence in Bağcılar area on charges of intimidating the passersby in the region because the young man said: “Every man comes here, I will sit on my chair and I won’t move.”

The Syrian young man would be transferred to the Turkish  Department of Immigration to be deported to Syria afterwards, according to reports.

On the other hand, other reports cited eyewitnesses as saying the young man had crossfire with some young men who parked their car in front of the young man’s shop.

The young men, owners of the car, were smoking and listening to loud music which the Syrian refuge considered provocative behavior.

“The Syrian man talked to them several times but when they refused to listen to him, the debate turned to a quarrel between the two parties,” according to reports.

The Turkish authorities occasionally arrest Syrian refugees alleging they breach the law. Afterwards, the Turkish authorities decide to deport them forcibly to Syria saying they lack legal documents permitting them to stay in Turkey, reports said.

In October 2021, the Turkish Interior Ministry announced the arrest of some Syrian refugees and threatened to deport them on the wake of videos showing the Syrian refugees eating bananas.

The banana case started when a video was posted on social media in which a Turkish man in Istanbul complaining he “could not afford to buy bananas”, while Syrians could afford “kilograms of bananas”.
