PCR Test for COVID-19 still effective: WHO

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the widely used PCR Test is still effective to detect Omicron COVID variant.

However, research are ongoing to detect the effectiveness of other technics used to detect the infection, according to WHO.

The WHO said the B.1.1.529 variant is the fifth COVID strain ‘of concern’ and named it Omicron.

Omicron (B.1.1. Q. 529) was first detected in Africa in November 24.

Omicron has raised global concern and countries started to take more severe procedures to limit other variants of COVID.

In the last few days, European and Asian states decided to impose travel bans to other countries specially to African ones in a step to contain the spread of Omicron.
