Turkish forces shell Assyrian villages in Syria’s Hasakah

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Turkish forces shelled barrage fire against an Assyrian village in Tel Tamr area north of Hasakah in northeast Syria.

In the early hours of morning, tens of heavy artillery shells targeted Tel Shnan village east of Tel Tamr town, a source of town’s Military Council told North Press.

The shelling lasted more than an hour and caused material damage to civilians’ properties.

On October 7, a previous Turkish bombardment on Tel Shnan caused severe damage to civilians’ properties, power lines and an Assyrian cemetery.

It is worth to say that the countryside area of Tel Tamr has been shelled since a week by Turkish forces positioned in villages on the contact lines east and north of Tel Tamr, north of Hasakah.

The countryside of Tel Tamr includes about 33 Assyrian villages, five of which were almost fully emptied due to ISIS attacks and their location on the frontlines with the Turkish forces, according to the residents.

Since the beginning of October, the villages situated on the contact lines in Tel Tamr were exposed to intensive shelling by Turkish forces and its backed Syrian armed opposition factions destroying civilians’ houses and damaging vital buildings, educational facilities and cemeteries belonging to the Assyrian community.
