Government forces deploy in towns of Syria’s east of Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, military groups of the Syrian government forces accompanied by Russian Military Police (MP) deployed in neighborhoods of the towns of al-Meliha al-Sharqiya and al-Meliha al-Gharbiyah in the eastern countryside of Daraa, south Syria.

Military groups affiliated with the government forces entered the residential neighborhoods, local sources told North Press.

Before entering the neighborhoods, the government forces blocked all routes leading to the two towns, and it is expected that the government forces will withdraw after finishing the inspection processes, the sources added.

Dozens of wanted individuals of al-Meliha al-Sharqiya and al-Meliha al-Gharbiyah were subjected to the settlements, according to the sources.

On Wednesday, the government forces exploded the house of Ismail Shokri al-Dar’an in the town of Nahta despite having his status settled, the same sources noted.

These steps come as a continuation of the agreement held in early September between the Central Committee and the government forces brokered by Russia.

On September 5, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, in the presence of a number of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security points in the towns of Daraa governorate.

Daraa was subjected to a suffocating siege imposed by Iranian-backed factions and the government forces for more than two months. Finally, an agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict brokered by Russia on a ceasefire and the entry of government forces into the besieged neighborhoods.
