Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs pays second visit to Syria in 40 days
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus in order to meet officials of the Syrian government after paying a two-day-visit to Lebanon.
During the visit, Amir-Abdollahian met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad.
During the meetings, he stressed that his country “will begin a new phase of commercial and economic ties with Syria,” describing these ties as “strategically.”
Since Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was assigned for this position on August 25, this is the second visit to be paid to Syria following another visit on August 29 after attending the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, which was held in the Iraqi capital without the participation of Syria.
During his visit to Beirut, the Iranian Foreign Minister presented plans for establishing two power plants in Lebanon and expressed his county’s readiness to be involved in the process of rehabilitating the Port of Beirut, which was massively destroyed as a result of a blast that hit it in August of 2020, in the event that Lebanon demands that.
