SDF arrests ISIS member in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested a member of the Islamic State (ISIS) in a town in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, after he had been in hiding for a long time.
A military source in Thiban town, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said that SDF Special Units raided the al-Thawra neighborhood in the town of Thiban and arrested Bashar al-Sattam, an ISIS member, inside his house.
A Kalashnikov, ammunition and a pistol with a silencer was found in his house, in addition to hand grenades, according to the source.
The source indicated that al-Sattam was wanted by the SDF and he had been in hiding for a long time, but the SDF learned of his reappearance in the town.
Recently, the SDF has intensified its security operations in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor to pursue the ISIS sleeper cells that carry out operations targeting SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, civilians and tribal dignitaries.
On August 1, sources of the SDF announced the arrest of four ISIS members, hours before they were scheduled to carry out an armed attack in the town of al-Izba, north of Deir ez-Zor.
