Syrian opposition figure dies of Covid-19
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Syrian opposition figure, Michel Kilo, died in a hospital in the French capital, Paris, at the age of 81, after being infected with coronavirus.
Kilo was born in Latakia in 1940, and was a prominent politician in the Syrian coalition before he left it in 2016.
In 1970s, Kilo left Syria to France after a period of detention, and he remained there until his return at the end of 1980s.
In 2006, he was arrested again on charges of “weakening national sentiment and encouraging sectarian strife” to spent three years in prison.
In late 2012, the Syrian government imposed a pre-trial detention on his movable and immovable assets in Syria, and the Terrorism Court sentenced him to death in 2015.
