Government forces continue targeting opposition sites in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government forces continued their intensive shelling of the Syrian opposition-controlled areas in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, northwestern Syria, while the latter responded by targeting the government’s positions, on Monday.

Field sources told North Press that the Syrian government forces targeted the villages and towns of Kansafra, Sufuhn, al-Fatira, Feleifel and Deir Sunbul, south of Idlib governorate, with dozens of artillery shells.

“The shelling caused significant material damage to public and private property, without casualties reported,” the sources added.

The shelling coincided with Russian drones overflight on the area.

Military sources in the Syrian opposition told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room responded to the shelling by targeting the sites of the Syrian government forces in the village of al-Malaja, south of Idlib, with rocket launchers.

The de-escalation zone has been witnessing mutual shelling between the government forces and the opposition groups for months, targeting the governorates of Idlib, Hama, Aleppo, and Latakia.

The Russian-Turkish signed agreement in 2017 and its additional protocol in March 2020 provide for a halt to the military actions in the governorate of Idlib and its surroundings.
