IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian government forces intensified their bombing of the sites of Syrian armed opposition groups in the Idlib and Hama governorates within the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria.
A field source told North Press that Syrian government forces bombed the fortifications of the opposition groups in the villages and towns of Fateira, Sufohn, Kansafra, Benin, and Fleifel, south of Idlib.
He added that government forces targeted the Turkish-backed armed groups’ positions on the outskirts of the village of Afes with heavy weapons.
He pointed out that the government bombing also affected the groups’ positions in the towns of Ziyara and Qarqour in the Ghab Plain region, northwest of Hama.
The bombing of government forces caused significant material damage to the residents’ properties.
Recently, the de-escalation zone is witnessing military escalation and mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and the Turkish-backed opposition groups, and the bombing has affected areas in the countryside of Idlib, Hama, Aleppo, and Latakia.
An agreement signed between Moscow and Ankara in 2017, and an additional protocol to it in March, provides for the cessation of military operations in the de-escalation zone, though mutual attacks and bombardment continue.
