Increase in coronavirus infections in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – A source of Suwayda Health Directorate told North Press that the directorate called on government hospital managers to provide the largest possible number of beds for coronavirus infections, after the escalation of the number of the infections.

Nizar Muhanna, manager of Suwayda Health Directorate, asked the managers of the four government hospitals not to occupy the beds of the hospitals except for emergency health cases, the source added.

This comes after dozens of coronavirus infections recently flocked to the emergency departments of government hospitals in the governorate.

The source pointed out that Muhanna directed to transfer emergency cases with diseases other than coronavirus to medical centers and dispensaries that are distributed over the governorate.

The source said that the number of coronavirus infections that were diagnosed in government hospitals in the cities of Salkhad and Suwayda, today reached 35 cases.

Government hospitals in Suwayda suffer from a lack of medical resources, and a decline in health services in light of government negligence, which exacerbated the suffering of the governorate’s residents during the years of war, according to residents.

In a statement to the local Sham FM radio, Issam al-Amin, manager of al-Muwasat Government Hospital in Damascus, predicted that Homs and Suwayda would be ranked first in the number of infections, after recording daily high infections.

The total number of coronavirus infections in the Syrian government-held areas reached 7,225, including 376 deaths and 3,079 recoveries.

On November 21, the number of deaths due to coronavirus infection reached 13, which is the largest death toll in Suwayda since the outbreak of the virus in the country.

Official numbers of the infections in the governorate estimated at 297 cases, but medical sources have previously doubted the validity of these numbers, and expected the infections to be in the thousands.
