Rise in coronavirus infections south Syria amid warnings of catastrophe
SUWAYDA (North Press) – Government medical sources said on Sunday that the number of coronavirus infections witnessed an increase in the governorates of Suwayda and Daraa, southern Syria, amid warnings of a catastrophe.
A government medical source told North Press that 13 deaths due to coronavirus infections were recorded on Saturday, in the isolation wards of Suwayda hospitals.
The source, who asked not to be named, indicated that the medical staff in a government hospital diagnosed 49 infections in one day only.
He said that the cases announced by the government authorities are much less than the great number of the infected people flocking to hospitals and medical centers.
In the southern governorates as well, a medical source of the Health Directorate in Daraa Governorate stated to North Press that the virus is spreading widely among the population, especially in government schools.
He added that the number of the infections in the educational sector and government schools have reached 55, including 33 students and 22 teachers.
In turn, another medical source who spoke to North Press, warned of the doubling number of the infected, and that the matter will take a dangerous turn unless the government authorities take quick and practical measures.
The official numbers of the infections in Suwayda reached 296 cases, including 16 deaths and 157 recoveries, according to data of the Ministry of Health of the Syrian government.
According to the numbers announced by the Ministry of Health, Daraa governorate recorded 324 infections, including 12 deaths and 178 recoveries.
