HTS explains reasons of arresting the Syrian activist Nour al-Shilo
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) formerly al-Nusra Front, which controls most of Idlib, confirms that the Syrian media activist Nour al-Shilo is under arrest due to her involvement in several cases.
HTS commented on the circulating news about the arrest of activist Nour al-Shilo in its prisons more than two months ago.
Sources in Idlib governorate said that HTS was preparing to issue a death sentence for a Syrian journalist detained two months ago.
In recent days, there were reports about the fate of Nour al-Shilo, a media activist detained in an HTS prison on charges of being an informant and working for the benefit of other parties.
Taqi al-Din Omar, Media Relations Office of HTS told North Press, “The reasons for the arrest of Nour Al-Shilo were due to her involvement in several cases.”
Al-Shilo was working as a media activist for local media and civil society organizations within the framework of empowering women, her husband was died eight years ago and she has three children.
Omar added that “she was arrested more than two months ago after a claim against her was raised, and several testimonies were documented.”
He pointed out that it was proven during the investigation and research stages that the defendant was involved in a number of criminal and moral issues, such as extorting women with their pictures and sending them to men.
Al-Shilu is from the city of Atarib, in the west of the Aleppo governorate. She is known as one of the women defenders of women’s rights. She devotes much of her time to helping the displaced in the camps.
He said that the issue of the arrest of al-Shilu had nothing to do with her work as a journalist or activist.
He did not mention to North Press the authenticity of what activists circulated about accusing her of communicating with the Syrian government or the US-led global coalition.
Activists and journalists in HTS controlled areas are subjected to harassment, and it is accused of carrying out arrests and violence against activists and civilians who do not support it in previous incidents.
