DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Under the title “Towards a National Conference for the People of Jazira and the Euphrates,” the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held a symposium on Tuesday, in the Saba’ Kilo region in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, with the attendance of social and political associations.
Members of the SDC’s presidential council, Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Civil Council of Deir ez-Zor, and social associations, clerics, sheikhs and tribal notables were in attendance.
The symposium discussed the intra-Syrian dialogue, dialogue with the opposition and the government, and the intra-Kurdish dialogue.
Also, issues like the historical relations among the peoples of the region and their roles in building the Autonomous Administration, the mechanism of its development, and the institutional work of the administration were discussed within the symposium.
Muhammad Atallah, a representative of the village of Mahmida in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that they refused to negotiate with the Syrian government, “because it was previously founded on tyranny, so it cannot accept others.”
Atallah pointed out that the participants in the symposium stressed the need for all communities to participate effectively in the work and engage in political and administrative participation within Autonomous Administration bodies and institutions.
During the past weeks, the SDC has held similar symposia in the cities of Hasakah, Manbij, Kobani, and Raqqa.
“The symposia we hold aim at taking residents’ views about the mechanism of running the region and launching a platform for dialogues between the SDC, the Syrian government, and the Syrian opposition in the future,” said Hikmat Habib, deputy co-chair of the SDC’s Executive Board.
“After completing the symposia, we will hold a conference for the people of North and East Syria to move to the Syrian interior later,” Habib added.
