Tripartite talks on Syria to be held in Moscow
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Turkish delegation will arrive in Moscow on Thursday to discuss Syria and Libya, a day after Russian-Iranian talks about the situation in Syria’s Idlib.
The Russian TASS agency quoted the Turkish embassy in Moscow on Wednesday as stating that a Turkish delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sedat Onal will hold two meetings with Russia to discuss the situation in Syria and Libya on Thursday.
A delegation headed by Onal visited Moscow in September to discuss the latest development in Syria and Libya.
A few days ago, the Institute for the Study of War stated that Russia and Turkey are seeking to create conditions for a new round of negotiations over the fate of Idlib.
The visit comes after Turkish forces withdrew from the ninth observation post in the city of Morek, which is situated in a region under the control of the Syrian government forces, north of Hama Governorate.
Iranian media reported that Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji discussed the developments in Syria and the situation in Idlib with the Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev.
The two negotiating parties discussed the latest developments in Syria during their meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, including the political process, the Syrian Constitutional Committee, and the conditions in Idlib.
Lavrentiev referred to what he called the positive achievements of Iranian-Russian cooperation in Syria at the bilateral level and within Astana process.
He also stressed the need to continue and strengthen consultations and cooperation between the two countries at various political levels.
Haji noted Russian-Iranian strategic cooperation in Syria both on the ground and politically.
