Kurdish National Council in Syria, Syria’s Tomorrow Movement visit Moscow
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official from the Kurdish National Council (ENKS, a coalition of Syrian Kurdish political parties allied with the opposition Syrian National Coalition), said on Tuesday that a delegation from ENKS, the Liberty and Peace Front, and other figures travelled to Moscow in order to meet with Russian officials.
The delegation consisted of Muhammad Ismail, an official in ENKS, and Suleiman Oso, the head of ENKS, in addition to members from the Liberty and Peace Front, and figures from Syria’s Tomorrow Movement (a Syrian opposition party founded in March 2016 in Cairo by Ahmed Jarba, a Syrian National Council member) that was headed by Ahmed Jarba, added the official, who preferred to remain unidentified.
The Liberty and Peace Front was formed in late July, including ENKS, the Assyrian Democratic Organization, Syria’s Tomorrow Movement, and the Arab Council in Jazira and the Euphrates.
The reasons for the visit, that took place two days after ENKS’ meeting with United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey in northeast Syria, were unknown.
Jeffrey met on Sunday with both ENKS and the PYD-led Kurdish National Unity parties that were holding intra-Kurdish political discussions.
In a statement posted on Monday, Jeffrey’s media office stated that cooperation would continue “to fulfil a peaceful solution for the Syrian conflict, depending on UN Resolution 2254, through cooperating with all Syrians opposed to the Assad government.”
