QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Avin Joma, the administrator in the Human Rights Organization in Jazira Region, said on Monday that “all proven evidence mentioned in the UN investigation committee’s report were enough to charge Turkish-backed opposition groups with war crimes.”
“The tone of the report should have been stronger, due the huge amount of proven evidence,” Avin said in an exclusive statement to North Press.
In a statement from the Human Rights Organization in Jazira Region, on the occasion of the World Peace Day, Joma called for a ceasefire according to what the United Nations called for earlier.
Joma added that they can rely on the statement through victims’ complaints to European and international courts to conduct trials against those who are responsible for the violations.
Turkey tried to curb the international efforts of proving the committed violations by Turkish-backed opposition groups, according to Joma.
However, the insistence of victims’ families and the documentation committees can prevent this, Joma said.
The statement issued by the organization called for stopping those violations, holding those responsible accountable, and returning the occupied Syrian territories as well as stopping displacement.
Furthermore, the statement insisted on the necessity of releasing all detainees, and urged human rights authorities to support the civilian victims to obtain justice.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria welcomed the UN report regarding Syria, and considered it an important beginning to document all violations in Afrin, Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad.
In the statement, the Administration called on the UN to put Turkey under pressure in order to stop its support of the armed opposition groups.
