We are committed to dialogue between Syrian parties: Russian Foreign Minister

(North Press) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed on Monday Russia’s determination to contribute to the dialogue among Syrian parties as soon as possible.

This came in a statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry after a meeting between Lavrov, the head of the Executive Board of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Ilham Ahmed, and the Secretary-General of the People’s Will Party Qadri Jamil.

“The talks included a detailed study of the urgent issues of the Syrian settlement in order to reach a comprehensive agreement among the Syrian parties based on Resolution 2254 issued by the UN Security Council,” Lavrov said.

He stressed “Russia’s firm willingness to continue contributing to the passage of a comprehensive and constructive dialogue among the Syrian parties as soon as possible,” according to the statement.

He added, “The dialogue will come in the interest of restoring and strengthening Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity along with creating favorable conditions for harmonious coexistence and progress for all religious and ethnic communities in Syria,” according to Russia Today.

Earlier on Monday, both the SDC and the People’s Will Party announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with articles related to the political roadmap to solve the Syrian crisis.

The two parties affirmed their support for the full implementation of Resolution 2254, including the implementation of the Geneva Declaration and the inclusion of other opposition platforms in the political process, including the SDC.
