Iraq rescues Yazidi woman kidnapped by ISIS

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday the rescue and repatriation of a kidnapped Yazidi woman following a joint operation with the National Intelligence Service.

The Ministry confirmed in a statement that the 21-year-old Fawzia Amin Sido was rescued through joint efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Intelligence Service, U.S. embassies in Baghdad and Amman, and Jordanian authorities, after over four months of efforts.

Sido, originally from the Qahtaniya/Al-Adnaniya Complex in Sinjar (Shengal) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), was abducted by militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) and transported across multiple countries.

In 2014, ISIS launched a brutal assault on the Yazidi community, resulting in the mass abduction and killing of thousands of Yazidis. The United Nations officially recognized this violence as genocide.

Sido was reunited with her family in Iraq on the same day, according to the statement.

The statement did not provide details about the country from which the girl was rescued.
