SDF kills 2 ISIS leaders in Raqqa
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday dismantling a sleeper cell of the Islamic State group (ISIS) in the countryside of Raqqa, northern Syria.
The SDF said in a statement that they carried out a security operation on Sep.14, with the support of the U.S.-led Global Coalition in the village of Shenina in the northeast of Raqqa.
The statement added that the ISIS cell consisted of two leaders, Abun Yousuf and Abu Matar, who orchestrated assassinations in the region.
The SDF forces surrounded the location where the militants were in hiding. The ISIS militants refused to surrender and clashed with the SDF, resulting in their killing, the statement noted.
Additionally, the SDF seized weapons, ammunition, and equipment during the raid, according to the statement.
