58 attacks hit US troops in Syria, Iraq since Oct. 17 – Pentagon

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Department of Defense said on Thursday that the Iranian-backed militias have launched 58 attacks against its troops in Syria and Iraq since Oct. 17.

“There have been approximately 58 attacks on our service members since October 17,” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary, Sabrina Singh said. “31 in Syria and 27 in Iraq.”

She added that the attacks caused neither significant damage to infrastructure nor injury to any of the service members.

On Nov. 15, Singh announced that 59 US personnel sustained various injuries in 55 attacks on their bases in Syria and Iraq since Oct. 17.

In response to a question about the Pentagon’s response, Singh said, “We’re not waiting on something to act. We are…we have responded, and if there are more attacks, we will certainly respond at a time and place of our choosing.”

The US forces have launched retaliatory airstrikes on sites linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria. The action comes after their bases were targeted by drones.

The escalation by the Iranian-backed militias against US troops in Syria and Iraq has come since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict on Oct. 7, following a surprise attack by Hamas.
